The Chapel
The Chapel, John Archer Way, Wandsworth, London SW18
The unique building had been empty for a number of years before the owner, artist Rolf Sachs engaged Valerie von Bechelstein to design a refurbishment scheme to breathe new life into the building as an office. The £650k contract we were awarded involved stripping out partitions, to return to an open plan arrangement on ground first and second floors. We opened up the vaulted ceiling, and the mezzanine below, upgraded the building insulation, replaced all the stained glass leaded lights, built new toilets and kitchens, and replaced all services, fittings and finishes. Externally the slated roof, gutters and downpipes were repaired, the bell tower was repainted and the stonework was cleaned including the replacement of the stone cross.
